LIE organized tow days training on organizing Empowering Women Home-Based Workers in Sylhet
Labour at Informal Economy (LIE) executed the second consecutive training to its members with the assistance of HNSA as a network partner on 22-23 February 2023. A total of fifteen women home-based workers participated in the training which was held at Buro Bangladesh, Sylhet focusing organize the unorganized.
The overall objectives of the training were to strengthen the knowledge of HBWs leaders to effectively deal the issues faced the women home-based workers in organizing and overcome the barriers in this regard. The training was facilitated by Farida Khanam, National Coordinator, Labour at Informal Economy and Israt Jahan, Assistant Coordinator with Mrs. Iffat Ara Shely, secretary of BFTUC have also taken sessions. Md. Shaheb Ullah, Programme officer of SGR conducted session on Community Based Enterprise Development and Golam Mustafa, Instructor of Department of Cooperative, Sylhet has facilitated the session on Formation and registration process of cooperative association.
Organizing is a very important issue for home-based workers as they are mostly unorganized. This training enhanced capacity and knowledge of women home-based workers in Bangladesh to organize themselves and increase effective collaboration in addressing right-based approach. HomeNet South Asia (HNSA), under the Comic Relief Project-Empowering Women Home-based workers initiated this training in order to build their capacity to organize and operate cooperatives, membership-based organizations, self-help groups etc. In addition, this training for empowering women HBWs, brought more HBWs Cooperatives and Enterprises to the table to discuss the issues faced by HBWs, policy advocacy and communications.
